Flares can appear anywhere, from the backs of your knees to your eyelids. Sometimes they're large and cover entire areas, and sometimes they're very concentrated in a hard-to-reach spot.

Eczema patches are versatile because you can cut them to fit these smaller areas. If you find that a patch covers more than your flare or you want to make a patch last longer, feel free to trim it.

Here's what to know about cutting a patch to fit your needs.

Our patches come in different sizes to better support the skin through the Flare Cycle. Take the Flare Quiz to check your stage in 60 seconds.

When You Should Cut an Eczema Patch

Whether or not you can cut an eczema patch is one of the most-asked questions we get on social media. Not only is it totally safe to do so, but it's recommended if you're flaring in a smaller spot. This is especially useful for those whose skin needs extra support on the face (namely, under the eyes or eyelids) and fingers—some of the most common places to get eczema.

Cutting patches is also helpful if a baby or toddler is wearing them. Their skin is very sensitive, and while the patches contain gentle, pediatrician-approved ingredients, kids don't need any extra skincare products on non-flaring areas.

While Surge and Reset are translucent and Signal has a very minimalist design, cutting the patches to be smaller makes them less noticeable.

How to Cut an Eczema Patch

Once you remove your patch from its packaging, take a clean pair of scissors and cut it into your desired shape and size. Leave the sticker backing on it while you cut, so the scissors don't come into contact with the part of the patch that will be touching your flare.

After you peel the back off, simply apply it like you normally would: Make sure your skin is clean and dry, and press the sides down for 30 to 60 seconds for optimal stickiness. You can store what's left of the patch in its original packaging or put it somewhere clean and safe.

If you're looking to simplify your routine, try the Flare Kit: It features Signal, Surge, and Reset, each of which provide the support your skin needs during Pre-Flare, Active Flare, and Post-Flare.

    FAQs

How do you cut an eczema patch?

Use clean scissors to trim the patch into your desired shape and size to fit your flare. Then peel off the sticker backing, and apply as normal to clean, dry skin.

Do eczema patches come in different sizes, or should you always cut them?

Signal, Surge, and Reset are different sizes. Surge is the largest (50x100 mm) and Reset is the smallest (20x20mm). You don't always have to cut them if they naturally fit the size of your flare.

Can you save the rest of a patch after cutting it?

Yes, you can use the rest of it when needed. Store the remainder in its original packaging or keep it somewhere clean and safe.

Does cutting an eczema patch make it less effective?

No, cutting a patch doesn't change how it works. It still delivers calm, active ingredients and provides physical protection for up to six to eight hours at a time.
